This kickstart unit was missing bearings and springs but is now complete, I found it VERY hard to assemble so my tip is "don't undo this unless you have to.

I shortened some springs for the preselector yesterday and closed the last coil up with a small blowtorch to make it flat which I'd not done before !

Hi Claudio,

I had one ITOM spring and could only buy longer springs  so I cut these to length and closed the last coil to make it flat.

I am going to have a 3 speed gear selector fork cut with a laser to put on the 4 speed preselector shaft to have a foot gear change.

Hi Claudio,

Correct, there are none but I will make one.

I also modified the gear change on my road bike to reduce wear on the preselector.

I did this when I was young :o: . It looks bad, but it works ! Regards, Colin

I have finally completed two preselectors with additional pivots for a rose joint linkage and also modified the heads of some stainless Philips screws to fit the covers.

Hi Claudio,

The gear change action on my road bike was inconsistent and when I
took the preselector unit apart I found wear on the friction washer
pegs and slot, so when I changed gear the wear was letting the
control shaft to rotate backwards a little which made the pushing
ratchet-pawl sometimes miss the next tooth on the control shaft.

imagebam.comimagebam.comimagebam.comimagebam.com

To fix this I have made some new washers, three with a square internal
peg and three with a point which fits inside the casing as shown,
this is a better design as the area of contact
is spread over 2cm of each edge.

Colin
