Hello Motom enthusiasts.

I have bought myself another Motom, Think its a 48 (C) Model. (it has the 48 code on the engine)

Want to use it as a test Motom as it has me an active Dutch licence plate so I can drive it around without any problems.
Hope not make it into a huge project, but I will change it a bid to give it a bit more Motom Sport/Race look.

It will certainly need work, but the base is good.

Well here it is.
20210220_133146
20210220_133507

Of course I started to change with what I had already lying around.
One this is mounting the Sport seat.
20210220_153951

Then I was thinking of rotating the fuel tank or lifting it on the back so it closes the gap between the seat and tank.
20210220_155140_0__020210220_155326_0

Think lifting the back gives the best result, of course a sport tank will be better, but need to find one first and that is getting difficult.
20210220_155326_1
I definitely will remove the pedals and make something nice for it also using some clip-ons to lower it all.

This bike will be a slower build, as my first project will get all the treatment

Will keep you guys updated.

Kind Regards
Louis

Quick question.

I'm trying to create a classic sport/race look for this project, and just discovered that these forks have an outside spring.

wrerwe

How far has this spring goes?
tertre

Can I Cut the outside tube, so it reveals the spring?

You see which direction I'm going.

I only need to make some small adapters to compensate the cone shape of the fork

20210223_152744
20210223_152926
20210223_153722

Therefore, I think it wil looks good/better if the outside spring off the fork is visible

If all goes well, I will have this on Saturday.

It has some very good and straight 18 inch rims on them i will use them for this project. (Perhaps I use the fenders too)
Think it will give my Motom a better look

Could do a little bit more today.
It's just to see how thinks are coming together

Started with the front fork
20210224_09115020210224_09172920210224_092208
20210224_093340

Then the clip ons:
20210224_11512820210224_123321

So after that I could push it outside to see if it starts to look better
20210224_140200
20210224_140625
20210224_144902

It needs more work, but in rough lines I think it's going in the right direction.
Will make an adapter to compensate the spring at the top so the fork smooth out.

First I need to know now how my 18 inch will look and see witch fenders I'm gona use
Hope to do more this weekend

Ciao Louis!
Ottima idea per la forcella anteriore, se non trovo nulla di meglio proverò a farne una uguale.
Puoi dirmi da dove vengono quelle pedane posteriori?
Saluti. Fabio.

Hello Fabio,

The front fork is relative easy to do, springs on the outside gives the Motom a more classic look.
I will make an aluminium spacer so the diameter jump from fork to spring will be smooth out
eeewe

footrest from behind
hfghfgh_0

The rear footrest are from a TZR Belgarda (made in Italy ;) )
www.ebay.it/itm/coppia-pedane-post...mCondition=3000
They have the same bolt distance,

I'm not entirely happy with the looks, I'm thinking of.
1) Keep them aluminium and also the rear spring/shock aluminium so it looks like they belong to each other.
2) Spray them red like all other frame parts.

Now they just look to massive, not entirely correct.

Kind regards
Louis

Ciao Fabio,

Yes, that is the original spring, haven't changed anything.
Only cleaned the spring, as it hat a lot of grease. (The grinder on the picture has no disk, but a brush)

The black tube is a lose protection an can be removed easily

Hi Luois,

I am following your great jobs from some time and I am very impressed: molto bravo.
I am not at all a Motom expert so what I am going to say may be worth nothing.
I am busy working on a front fork (https://50iniepoca.forumfree.it/?t=78293906) exactly the same of your apart of that your tubes are blued and mine chrome plated.
I saw you removed the welded 'bridge' on top of external pipes.
I suppose Motom fitted it cause they don't fully trusted the connection between those and the upper plate that is done just by the handle bars nut and not clamped as usual in modern forks.
It does not seem it will be flimsy at all, but may be you will study something to replace that 'bridge'.
Apart of this if you read my post at the end you will see I have a question about a broken plastic ring I found in between the spring coils; I am wondering may be you have an answer for me!

Thanks a lot, Osvaldo

Hello Osvaldo,

Don't worry, I'm not a Motom expert too, just doing what I think is best enjoying the hobby we have.

I know what you mean, the bride indeed strengthens the fork at the tops.
I'm Working out a plan to keep that same strength.

Regarding your rubber ring.
Think I had the same one in mine (but only on the left fork/spring)
They seem to be a little small for sealing the fork from dust, but it could be that the where bigger when new
20210225_19583320210225_195921

I'm just thinking up loud (but dont know for sure) they could be there for:
1) Sealing off the spring agenst the tube (dirt)
2) Prevent the spring to hit metal (kind of insulator)
3) Making the spring progressive/stiffer
4) Keep the oil/grease from the bottom fork getting up (kind of seal)

But these are just wild guesses.

Kind regards
Louis

Ciao Louis,

thank you very much.
Your pics... just the same what i saw on my fork, only I can't remember for sure if was right side or left.
What I was thinking it was fitted in some way in the bottom end below the place where the spring is screwed, more or less as oil seals are fitted in normal (up side up ;) ...) fork.
I hope somebody has spare part exploded drawing for this fork and like to post it.

If I discover something about I'll let you know.

Best Regards, Osvaldo

Today I bought some Motom parts,

20210227_151427_1

Happy with the wheels, they are straight no rust just in a good condition. This is exactly what my road going Motom needs.
20210227_171116

Have ordered new tyres and some fender parts.
So I can do the next step.

Also started with constructing my test engine for this Motom.
Replaced the broken oil line
20210225_153626
20210225_161409
20210225_161420
20210225_164004

Hope to finish her tomorrow.
Will start with a stock head 15/15 valves just to feel how a stock engine reacts/drives
Then we will try other heads different valves, etc. will be fun to do.

Hello Motom enthusiasts,

Finished my test engine.
Used a head with a 15mm inlet valve and a 15mm exhaust valve (have used this head in the past)
20210228_13514920210228_150249_0_20210228_15062420210228_15263720210228_155056_0_

This head is not meant for this type of cylinder (official it needs the whole copper gasket at not the O-rings) but it looks like it will work.
I can shift it manually trough all the gears, only neutral is a bid between first and neutral (its not in gear but you can feel the nocks while rotating)
I'm not entirely happy with that.

Quick question?
Can you adjust the mechanical gear inside the Motom engine?

The next step will be
1) Wait on my ordered tyres for the 18 inch rims
2) Wait on my ordered fenders

I need to mount the wheels with tyres in order to see where my front fender needs to be than I can weld some brackets so the fender will be in place
When the fenders are ready will take everything apart paint it all.
